President Donald Trump met with Darline Graham Nordone, who was recently appointed to fill the Senate seat vacated by her late brother, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.). During the Oval Office meeting, Trump encouraged her to run in the special Republican primary for a full term in the seat, later writing on Truth Social: “RUN, DARLINE, RUN!”
Graham Nordone had indicated she was weighing a bid for the seat during her Thursday meeting at the White House, according to reports from multiple news outlets. Trump stated they have “known each other for a long time” and publicly backed her candidacy in the Republican primary election for the full term.
The special election will determine who fills the remainder of the Senate term following Lindsey Graham’s death. Graham Nordone’s appointment to the seat allows her to serve in an interim capacity while the special election process proceeds.
