The final stage of the Tour de France has been shortened due to major wildfires near Bordeaux, with security personnel assigned to the race being redeployed to help contain the blazes. The decision to reduce Sunday’s concluding stage reflects the severity of the fire situation in the region.
Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar has all but secured a record-equalling fifth Tour de France title, consolidating his dominant performance throughout the race. On Friday during stage 19, Pogacar completed the Alpe d’Huez climb in 35 minutes and 27 seconds as part of a solo attack that extended his overall lead. On Saturday, Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz won the challenging 20th stage on the same mountain, while Pogacar maintained his position near the top of the standings.
With the final stage scheduled to proceed in shortened form on Sunday, Pogacar’s path to victory appears clear as the race concludes amid the wildfire emergency affecting the surrounding region.
