A five-alarm fire broke out in Flushing, Queens on Saturday morning, with reports indicating it began at a home on 41st Road near College Point Boulevard. The FDNY received initial reports at 9:52 a.m. and the fire escalated to a five-alarm response by 10:40 a.m. The blaze spread to adjoining apartment buildings, displacing residents and requiring a large emergency response.
The fire resulted in multiple injuries among both the public and emergency responders. Sources report between 17 and 21 people injured, including firefighters battling the blaze. An elderly resident was reported to be in critical condition. Approximately 250 FDNY personnel responded to the fire, which damaged multiple structures in the residential area.
In a separate incident covered by some sources, police reported fatally shooting an armed individual outside a New York City home. According to the reports, the person was armed with a shotgun and wearing a bulletproof vest, and confronted officers who were outside the residence. Two people were found dead inside the home, though details about whether these incidents are related remain unclear from the available sources.
