Massive wildfires sweeping through southwest Europe have forced more than 260,000 people to evacuate their homes. According to authorities in both France and Spain, the evacuations represent one of the largest displacement events in the region in recent years.
The rapid spread of the fires has been driven by extreme heat and strong winds that have created dangerous conditions across the affected areas. Multiple heat waves have left vegetation and landscapes extremely dry, creating tinderbox conditions that have allowed the flames to advance quickly through populated regions.
As of the latest reports, no deaths have been directly attributed to the wildfires, though the situation remains ongoing. Emergency response efforts continue in both countries as authorities work to contain the fires and manage the large-scale evacuation.
