Berlin police have identified a suspect in connection with the attack who is described as “known to police” and from Berlin. According to reporting, authorities have indicated the suspect has ties to “Islamist circles” or Islamic “circles,” though the specific nature and extent of these connections have not been detailed by law enforcement.
The suspect remains at large as of the reports’ publication. Police canceled or halted the continuation of the Pride festival following the incident. Investigations into the attack are ongoing.
