A special election to fill the remainder of late Rep. David Scott’s term in the U.S. House of Representatives is headed to a runoff after no candidate secured a majority of votes in the initial contest. The race featured five candidates competing for the vacant seat representing a Georgia district.
Marcye Scott, the late congressman’s daughter, and fellow Democrat Everton Blair finished atop the five-candidate field and will advance to the runoff. Neither candidate achieved the 50 percent threshold required to win outright in the first round of voting, necessitating a second election between the top two finishers.
