French police have opened a murder investigation after the remains of five newborns were discovered in cardboard boxes at a couple’s home in southeastern France. The discovery was made after a woman gave birth to a healthy baby at home, and her partner subsequently found the boxes containing the remains while in the residence.
According to reports, hospital staff were alerted following the home birth and prompted prosecutors to investigate. The circumstances leading to the discovery involved an argument between the couple, after which the partner searched the flat. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the case.
