A cyclospora outbreak affecting multiple US states has prompted Taylor Farms to recall shredded iceberg lettuce distributed across 27 states as recently as Thursday. The recall comes as cases of cyclosporiasis, a parasitic infection transmitted through contaminated food or water, continue to rise nationwide.
Taco Bell has removed lettuce from menus at many locations in response to the outbreak. According to health officials, this represents the largest US outbreak of cyclosporiasis on record, with 94 people hospitalized and no deaths reported to date.
Taylor Farms has not specified the locations where the recalled products were served or sold. Health authorities anticipate the outbreak may continue for at least another two weeks as new cases potentially emerge from previously consumed contaminated products.
