Major Wildfire Burns Thousands of Hectares in Central Spain

Guadalajara, Spain

Spain is experiencing multiple active wildfires across different regions. A significant blaze in Guadalajara province, north of Madrid in central Spain, has burned more than 12,000 hectares and prompted the evacuation of hundreds of people, according to local authorities reporting on Sunday.

The Guadalajara wildfire is one of several active fires affecting Spain simultaneously. Earlier in July, one of the country’s deadliest wildfires in recent history broke out in the southern region, while another major blaze that started in the northeast on Wednesday remained uncontained at the time of reporting.

Video documentation of the northern Spanish wildfire shows the extensive scale of the fires, with coverage indicating more than 150 square kilometers affected in that region. The multiple simultaneous wildfires have strained firefighting resources across the country.
