The escalation centers on disagreements over a ceasefire agreement between the two nations. Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei accused the U.S. of repeatedly breaching the ceasefire terms, calling President Trump’s signature on the memorandum of understanding “utterly worthless and devoid of credibility.” Khamenei asserted that renewed U.S. strikes demonstrated further violations of the agreement.
Meanwhile, Iranian officials have made public statements about military readiness. A regime spokesperson claimed Iran welcomes a U.S. ground invasion and has developed new missile capabilities, citing decades of military preparation. The statements reflected the hostile rhetoric accompanying the current military exchanges.
In response to the escalation, President Trump called on Congress to add Iran to a bipartisan Russia sanctions bill. The legislative effort represents an effort to increase pressure on Tehran amid the ongoing conflict.
