A federal judge has paused the $110 billion merger between Paramount and Warner Bros., keeping the two Hollywood studios as separate competing operations while legal proceedings continue. According to reports, the merger remains on hold until a judge reaches a final verdict or until June 1, 2027, whichever comes first.
Twelve states have filed a lawsuit against Paramount, challenging the legality of the proposed merger. The states argue that the deal would create an overly concentrated “media behemoth” that would harm both audiences and the entertainment industry more broadly.
The merger pause marks a significant development in the entertainment industry consolidation, as the companies await resolution of the antitrust claims raised by the states’ legal challenge.
