Shots were fired near the US consulate in Toronto early Monday morning, marking the second such incident at the diplomatic compound in four months. Toronto police responded to reports of gunfire in the area and reported seeing a white sedan fleeing the scene.
No injuries were reported from the shooting. According to police statements, no suspects have been identified in connection with this incident. However, sources differ on the police response: BBC World reports that police engaged in a high-speed car chase but failed to apprehend the suspect, who remains at large, while The Guardian’s reporting focuses on the initial identification of the fleeing vehicle without mentioning the outcome of any pursuit.
This shooting follows a similar attack on the same consulate in June, when three people were arrested in connection with that incident. The recurring nature of the attacks has highlighted security concerns at the Toronto diplomatic compound.
