British runner Josh Kerr set a new world record for the mile at the London Diamond League on Saturday, completing the distance in 3 minutes and 42.66 seconds. The time broke the previous record of 3:42.13, which was set by Morocco’s Hicham El Guerrouj in Rome in 1999 and had stood for 27 years.
Kerr’s record-breaking performance took place in front of a sell-out crowd at the packed London stadium during the high-profile Diamond League event. The achievement marks a significant milestone in professional athletics, as El Guerrouj’s previous record had remained unbroken for more than a quarter-century.
