Atlanta Falcons edge rusher Jalon Walker was carted off the field during a non-padded training camp practice on Tuesday, Aug. 4. According to a joint report from ESPN and NFL Network, the Falcons fear he tore his ACL. He is set to undergo an MRI to confirm the severity of the injury. NBC Sports’ PFT reported that reporters at the workout described the injury as involving Walker’s left leg, and that teammates took a knee around him as he was loaded onto the cart. CBS Sports reported the injury occurred during an 11-on-11, two-minute drill period, and that Walker went down in the backfield before being evaluated by Atlanta’s training staff. The team called off the remainder of practice afterward.

If the ACL tear is confirmed, Walker would almost certainly miss the entire 2026 season. He was the No. 15 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft out of Georgia and was projected as an every-week starter at edge rusher entering his second season. Walker’s rookie production

CBS Sports noted he had a stretch from Weeks 9 through 12 in which he posted four sacks in four games. Compounding pass-rush concerns

Walker’s injury comes as fellow 2025 first-round edge rusher James Pearce Jr., also drafted by Atlanta to bolster the pass rush, faces a possible NFL suspension stemming from a February domestic dispute arrest involving his ex-girlfriend, WNBA player Rickea Jackson. Pearce was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, fleeing and eluding police, resisting an officer with violence, and aggravated stalking, but those charges were dismissed after he entered a pre-trial intervention program. He has continued practicing with the team and appears physically ready for the season, but the league could still impose a suspension before Week 1. If both Walker and Pearce are unavailable to start the season, Atlanta would be without both of the first-round edge rushers it selected in 2025 to reshape its pass rush.
