The move
Turkish club Trabzonspor has confirmed it has opened negotiations with Mohamed Salah, the 34-year-old Egypt forward who left Liverpool as a free agent at the end of last season. According to BBC Sport, the club said in a statement that Salah is set to arrive in Istanbul on Wednesday before traveling on to the city of Trabzon that same evening. Trabzonspor said further details of a welcome program in Trabzon would be released through the club’s official channels.
Salah’s Liverpool career
Salah joined Liverpool from Roma in June 2017 and spent nine seasons at the club. Over 442 appearances he scored 257 goals and added 120 assists. He won the Premier League Golden Boot four times and was named the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year three times, in 2018, 2022 and 2025. With Liverpool he won two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, the FA Cup, two EFL Cups and the Community Shield.
Recent form and international duty
Salah was part of the Egypt squad at the 2026 World Cup that advanced to the last 16 before losing 3-2 to Argentina, who went on to reach the final. No injury concerns were mentioned in connection with the proposed move.
