Arizona Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs’ reelection campaign has become the subject of criticism from Republican opponents over its spending levels and strategy. According to campaign finance data, Hobbs’ campaign spent $7.4 million in the second quarter of 2026 while raising $2.64 million during the same period, resulting in a significant spending-to-fundraising gap.
GOP critics, including Republican strategist Bowyer, have characterized the spending approach as excessive, using the phrase “drunken sailor spending” to describe the campaign’s financial management. According to these critics, the spending pattern reflects a broader strategic concern, with resources being directed heavily toward paid media and political consultants rather than grassroots organizing and volunteer mobilization efforts.
