Phoenix Fire Department crews were dispatched around 7:30 a.m. Friday to the Arizona Canal in the area of 24th Street, near both Camelback Road and Bethany Home Road, close to the Arizona Biltmore resort. Fire officials said an SRP (Salt River Project) employee first spotted what looked like a body floating in the water. Firefighters arriving on scene confirmed it was an adult and began work to recover the remains. Phoenix Fire Capt. Todd Keller said the person was “beyond resuscitation” by the time crews reached them. The body was fully removed from the canal shortly before 10 a.m., roughly two and a half hours after the initial call.
Is foul play suspected?
