Carly Simon, the singer best known for 1970s hits including “You’re So Vain,” publicly announced that she has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. The disclosure came in a statement released Monday in which Simon described the diagnosis as “frightening” and discussed her efforts to learn how to live with the condition.
In addition to the Parkinson’s diagnosis, Simon also revealed that she was treated for basal cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer. She characterized both health challenges as “frustrating” in her statement about her condition.
Simon indicated that these health battles contributed to her withdrawal from the public spotlight in recent years. The singer, known for her career spanning several decades since the 1970s, explained how she has been managing her diagnosis while adjusting to life with Parkinson’s disease.
