Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara, a Cuban dissident artist, has arrived in the United States following his release from prison in Cuba. He was granted humanitarian parole by the United States and was welcomed in Miami upon his arrival. Otero Alcántara co-founded the San Isidro Movement, a collective of Havana-based artists, writers, and musicians that protests against the Cuban government.
Otero Alcántara was arrested in Havana in 2021 during one of Cuba’s largest anti-government protest movements in decades. According to available reports, he spent approximately five years in prison before his release and subsequent departure to the United States, where he will now pursue exile.
