A cyclospora outbreak is drawing significant attention from both health officials and the American public. Former FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb stated on Sunday that the Food and Drug Administration does not yet have the cyclosporiasis outbreak fully under control, though he acknowledged the agency has performed well in isolating cases to central Mexico and specific farms in that region.

The outbreak has affected consumer behavior and public awareness substantially. A CBS News poll found that nearly as many Americans are following news about the cyclospora parasite as are tracking the conflict with Iran, indicating widespread concern about the foodborne illness among the general population.
