Dr. Anthony Fauci, 85, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases who led the U.S. pandemic response under seven presidents before retiring in 2022, appeared under subpoena on Wednesday before the Senate Homeland Security Committee, chaired by Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky.
