The Federal Trade Commission has filed a lawsuit against telehealth company Hims & Hers, alleging that the platform shared users’ sensitive health information with social media companies Meta and Snap without proper consent. According to the FTC’s complaint, the company disclosed what regulators describe as consumers’ “most private” health information to the technology companies.
In addition to the data-sharing allegations, the FTC also claims that Hims & Hers engaged in deceptive practices related to billing and subscription cancellations. The lawsuit asserts that the company made it difficult for consumers to cancel their subscriptions and locked users into ongoing charges.
The lawsuit has had an immediate impact on the company’s financial performance, with Hims & Hers shares falling 10% following the announcement of the FTC’s legal action. The case centers on concerns about consumer privacy protections in the telehealth industry and the handling of sensitive health data by digital health platforms.
