Skyroot Aerospace, a space technology company founded in India, successfully launched the Vikram-1 rocket on Saturday, marking India’s first commercial rocket designed to reach orbit. The rocket lifted off from an island location north of Chennai, signaling a significant milestone for India’s private space sector.
The launch represents India’s entry into the commercial rocket launch market and reflects the country’s ambitions to capture a larger share of the growing space industry. Skyroot Aerospace, recognized as India’s first space-tech unicorn, has developed the Vikram-1 as part of efforts to offer commercial launch services for satellites and other orbital missions.
