Sen. Mitch McConnell’s office released a health update Monday indicating the Kentucky Republican remains unable to return to in-person work following his hospitalization after a fall at his Capitol Hill home in June. McConnell has been discharged from hospital care but continues rehabilitation with multiple daily physical therapy sessions.

According to his physicians, McConnell is not yet medically cleared to return to the Senate. His recovery has been complicated by childhood polio, which affects his mobility. As part of his ongoing recovery, McConnell announced he will miss the annual Fancy Farm picnic in Kentucky—a premier political event he has attended for more than 40 years.

Recent visitors have provided positive assessments of McConnell’s condition. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito reported that someone who recently visited McConnell during his rehabilitation described him as “clear-minded” and noted he is “recovering and healing.” Additionally, a recent photo showed McConnell smiling alongside his wife, Elaine Chao.
