The meeting comes at a time of reported tensions between Washington and its allies. According to France24, Netanyahu’s visit may receive a cooler welcome than previous trips, partly due to fallout from the U.S. air war against Iran, which sources indicate Netanyahu had a significant role in encouraging Trump to launch.
Separately, diplomatic tensions escalated at the United Nations, where U.S. envoys walked out during French remarks at a Security Council meeting. According to BBC reporting, the walkout followed the U.S. joining North Korea and Russia in voting against extending the term of the UN high commissioner for human rights. Fox News reports that the U.S. envoy defended the walkout, accusing France of “disingenuous grandstanding” and vowing that American diplomats would continue walking out during French statements at the U.N.
