Polish authorities reported that a missile struck eastern Polish territory on Thursday, leaving a 10-meter-wide crater near the village of Tarnawa Kolonia, approximately 100 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that the object appeared to be a Russian missile, and the incident occurred during a Russian military attack on neighboring Ukraine.
According to reports, the missile breached Polish and NATO airspace during a Russian assault on the Lviv region in western Ukraine. The incident marked an escalation in the ongoing conflict, with the unidentified object creating visible damage in a field in Poland’s eastern region.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responded to the Russian attack by urging international allies to provide anti-ballistic missiles to defend against what he characterized as “Russian terror.” The European Union also issued criticism of the Russian military operation.
The incident raises questions about airspace violations and regional security, with Poland’s NATO membership adding diplomatic significance to the reported breach of its airspace.
