Trump announces $22 billion renovation plan for Dulles International Airport

President Trump announced a $22 billion renovation plan for Washington’s Dulles International Airport on Wednesday, in an announcement made from the Oval Office alongside Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy. The comprehensive overhaul includes construction of new terminals and the addition of a new underground system to connect the terminals.

A key component of the plan involves removing the airport’s aging “people mover” mobile lounge shuttles, which have been in operation for decades. Trump stated that the renovation reflects his view that the airport currently falls short in quality, remarking that travelers of both political affiliations would prefer not to use the facility in its current state.

The renovation project represents part of a broader pattern of the president directing changes to major infrastructure projects in Washington. The plan marks a significant proposed investment in modernizing one of the nation’s capital’s primary international aviation gateways.
