The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) concluded that a Tesla driver manually overrode the car’s driver assistance system before it crashed into a residential home in Katy, Texas in mid-June. According to the NTSB’s preliminary findings, the 44-year-old driver accelerated the 2025 Tesla Model 3 into the building after the vehicle left the road and entered the driveway.
The crash resulted in the death of a 76-year-old woman. The incident occurred weeks after Tesla’s Full Self-Driving feature had been operating, though the driver deliberately took control and accelerated the vehicle into the residence, according to the NTSB investigation.
The findings highlight the role of driver override in the fatal incident, with the safety board’s analysis indicating that manual driver intervention, rather than a malfunction of the vehicle’s assistance systems, was the critical factor in the crash.
