
Andrew Truelove, 41, was arraigned Friday on hate crime charges following an incident at NBC’s “Today” show studios. According to reports, he breached security at the studio and allegedly shouted a racial slur at co-anchor Craig Melvin. Truelove was charged with one count of burglary in the third degree as a hate crime and one count of menacing in the third degree as a hate crime.
The intruder reportedly entered an unauthorized area of the studio, with surveillance video capturing the security lapse. According to Fox News reporting, the individual was initially searching for another “Today” show personality, Al Roker. The incident prompted disciplinary action, with a security guard being fired following the breach.
The case marks a significant security incident at one of NBC News’s flagship programs. The charges underscore the prosecution’s view that the incident was motivated by bias, though court proceedings are ongoing.
